Dear Parents and Carers
At St Mary’s, we aim to provide a happy, healthy, safe, supportive and stimulating environment, promoting achievement for all and celebrating success. I am particularly proud of the work being done in all classes to promote the 5C’s, which reinforces the Gospel message to “treat others as you would like to be treated”. All staff work together to provide an education which is both enjoyable and challenging and which meets the needs of all of our pupils. We embed the attributes of a Midlothian Learner in our everyday practice to help the children develop skills for learning, life and work and to help them develop as successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors and responsible citizens.
We were delighted to move in to our brand new school in August 2020 and are delighted that the sense of community and family has been retained in our new building. St Mary’s RC Primary is at the heart of a thriving Community in Bonnyrigg and enjoys good links with the Catholic Church of Our Lady with our Parish Priest Father Allan Ocdenaria.
A key priority for us this session is to ensure the safe return to school for our staff and pupils following the long period of school closure due to Covid 19. We aim to use our PEF fund to identify and address gaps in learning as a result of school closure, and aim in general to increase attainment in literacy and numeracy in all classes. All pupils will receive specialist teaching in art, science and technology and drama. Our teachers are working collaboratively across the St David’s Learning Community to update our RERC programme. As always we have a number of teaching and CCDW students working in the school throughout the year and we value the contributions they make to your child’s learning experiences.
As last year the children are placed in either ST Margaret’s or ST Andrew’s House. Having PE kit, letters returned, money paid to school on time will all earn house points for your child. Reward cards in class recognise when your child is making progress in learning, and children will be rewarded for good behaviour in school if they stay on green each term. We have organised the children into Teams for Golden Time.
Our twitter feed will keep you up to date with the activities in each class and key events and competitions. We have an active and hard working Parent Council and are always looking for new members.
Please don’t hesitate to contact the School Office if you have any queries and look out for information coming home from school via the book bag.
