WELCOME AND CONTACT PAGE

Dear Parents and Carers

At St Mary’s, we aim to provide a happy, healthy, safe, supportive and stimulating environment, promoting achievement for all and celebrating success.  I am particularly proud of the work being done in all classes to promote the 5Cs, which reinforces the Gospel message to “treat others as you would like to be treated”.  All staff work together to provide an education which is both enjoyable and challenging and which meets the needs of all of our pupils. We embed the attributes of a Midlothian Learner in our everyday practice to help the children develop skills for learning, life and work and to help them develop as successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors and responsible citizens.

We were delighted to move in to our brand new school in August 2020 and are delighted that the sense of community and family has been retained in our new building.  St Mary’s RC Primary is at the heart of a thriving Community in Bonnyrigg and enjoys good links with the Catholic Church of Our Lady with our  Parish Priest Father Michael.

A key priority for us this session is to improve attainment and achievement and further develop our digital learning strategy. We want to work with you to increase our Parental Inclusion and Engagement (PIE) in school life and look forward to in person Sharing the Learning events throughout the year.  We aim to use our PEF fund to identify and address gaps in learning, and aim in general to increase attainment in literacy and numeracy in all classes.  We are also mindful of the many challenges families are facing financially just now and will aim to reduce the cost of the school day as much as possible for you.   All pupils will receive specialist teaching in PE and RE this session. We will be reviewing the Curriculum with colleagues across the authority and will be looking for some input and feedback from parents about this.  We hope to welcome Teaching and EYP students into the school and return to this important part of training for the future workforce.

As last year the children are placed in either ST Margaret’s or ST Andrew’s House. Having PE kit, letters returned, money paid to school on time will all earn house points for your child. Reward cards in class recognise when your child is making progress in learning, and  children will be rewarded for good behaviour in school by earning green cards in class.

Our twitter feed will keep you up to date with the activities in each class and key events and competitions.   We have an active and hard working Parent Council  and are always looking for new members.

Please don’t hesitate to contact the School Office if you have any queries and look out for information coming home from school via the book bag.
